United Kingdom Medical Licensing Assessment (UKMLA)
From the academic year 2024-25, Medical students in UK need to undertake UKMLA (UK Medical Licensing Assessment) exam to qualify for GMC (General Medical Council) registration.
Attaining medical degree qualification along with passing MLA exam is the criteria set to enter and work as Foundation Programme (FY) doctors for UK Medical students.
UKMLA has 2 components:
MS AKT (Medical School Applied Knowledge Test) – written exam
OSCE/CPSA (Objective Structured Clinical Examination/Clinical and Professional Skills Assessment)


Format of UKMLA - AKT Applied Knowledge Test
AKT exam is a written assessment exam with Multiple-Choice Questions, where one has to choose a Single Best Answer (SBA).
MS AKT exam is comprised of two 100-item papers which will be sat on sequential days. The standard time for each paper is 2 hours.
There is no negative marking and hence answering all the questions is very important. Time management is key.
